Steve Holm is in Major League Baseball, San Francisco Giants

From Host Mom:
This was an exciting weekend. Our Baseball Pro, Steve Holm, played in two exhibition games against the cross-bay Oakland A’s. It was fun watching him play behind the plate in the Giants ball park in the San Francisco Giants major league baseball uniform. And he got several hits.

Then on Sunday, Steve made the 25 man starting day roster for the Giants baseball team, so he will be starting in the majors this season. It’s quite a change from last season when he was playing for the AA Connecticut Defenders, and named Most Valuable Player. He expected a promotion to the AAA Fresno affiliate team for the Giants, but got a big step up by being named to the #2 catching position for the Major League Giants. You can read about it in this article from the San Jose Mercury News. And of course, the San Francisco Chronicle carried the story, about Steve’s start at high school in Sacramento, then moving on to Oral Roberts University.

Steve is a quiet guy, and a talented player. He has the discipline to do well in the majors, and we will be thrilled to watch him this season. Yeah, Steve!

I knew Steve as, “Stevie” from grade school. He was one grade above me, we both attended Marcum Illinois (K-8) in a small town called Nicolaus (near Sacramento, CA). He was good friends with my sister, Jennifer. He later attended high school in Sacramento.

Stevie was always a great athlete. The rest of the Ramirez family and I wish him luck in the majors.

Go Stevie!! Go Giants!!

Steve - I’m not sure if you you remember but I was your baseball coach during your freshman year of high school at East Nicolaus. Believe me, I’m not here to take any credit for you making the big leagues, as you taught me just as much about baseball as I did you at that time. I just wanted to try and contact you and let you know how proud I am of you and what you have accomplished. We always knew you had exceptional talent, but it takes soooo much more to get to the big leagues and it’s amazing that you have made it!!! My wife (Julia McKenzie) and I live in the bay area with our 2 year old and we will definitely be at several games this year. Maybe we could come down during batting practice and say hi at some point. Either way, Steve, we are so proud of what you have accomplished and wish you nothing but the best going forward. It makes it so much sweeter that I’m a life-long Giants fan, so this couldn’t be any better! Hope to hear from you or see you soon.
