Steve’s Last Day in San Jose Giants Baseball Ballpark
For some teams the last day of the season is one that everyone looks forward to. If you are not going to be in the playoffs you know exactly when you are going home. You usually already have your flight information as well as having your bags packed. But for teams in the playoffs it is a different story.
This year our team clinched a playoff spot by winning the first half of the season. So essentially we were in the playoffs in June. Yet this was not enough time to prepare for the last day. We lost game five of the semi final round. That meant we were going home the next day and not playing another five game series like we had planned. It is the emotional roller coaster this final deciding game five that you can not prepare for. As mad and disappointed as everyone is about losing they are also happy to be going home.
The hardest part of the entire deal is saying goodbye to all of the guys that you have shared the last 6 months with. You have been together virtually every day, and now everyone is leaving tommorow. Some you will see in the off season, most you will see in next spring training and for those who get released, you may never see again.
Your baseball pro, Steve Holm
P.S. The uncertainty of the end of season brings a special set of problems, i.e. how much food should be vendors have for games, staffing and so on–issues I had to deal with with Little League playoffs. That’s the nature of the sport! Host mom, Jean
