End of Season for San Jose Giants baseball…..
Last night, the season ended for our baseball player, Steve Holm. The team lost 5-2 in the fifth game of the championship series against the Visalia Oaks, so won’t be playing for play for the California League championship. The San Jose Giants had hoped to repeat their 2005 success in winning the championship, but they weren’t able to pull it off. Overall, the season has been quite successful with record atttendance and sponsorships, as shown on their website, www.sjgiants.com Steve had a personal best in hitting 24 home runs during the season, with two games where he hit 2 home runs in the game.
The final game was played on a weekday night so there wasn’t even radio coverage for their final game. The players hung out around the clubhouse and cleaned out their equipment, then headed out for their final night at their host families. Steve packed and left this morning around 10:00 a.m. Players are used to packing, taking most of their belongings with them on the road, since they don’t know when they may be moved to another team.
After six months, it seems strange to have an empty guestroom, though Steve was gone half the time. He’s spending a few days with his parents in Sacramento, then heads for Scottsdale for six weeks of instructional baseball, where he gets to live on $20 a day meal money, and no salary. Such is the life of a professional minor league baseball player…..
